Meet Our Team
McKenzie Lawler
After growing up in Bismarck, McKenzie moved to Fargo to attend NDSU. She graduated with a Horticulture degree in landscape design and a minor in landscape architecture in 2014. She started working at Dakota OutdoorScapes as a landscape designer after graduation in 2015.
Since starting with Dakota Outdoorscapes, she has gained experience within this industry by working alongside a master gardener, obtaining a summer job with a tree care company injecting and spraying for disease, and working at a designing company in Fargo. She has been trying to get as much experience as possible within different parts of the landscaping industry.
She is very passionate about the landscaping industry and loves passing on her knowledge to customers. She will work with you to explain her thought process behind what is being installed from start to finish.
Her position entails meeting with clients to determine their desires and come up with a landscape plan that can fit their needs. She follows the projects from start to finish to ensure the project matches the client’s vision.
She is on the Bismarck Mandan Home Builders Association board to ensure that she is involved in the community and knows what is happening in local construction. She has received multiple landscape awards at these NDNGLA conventions for her designs. She has a deep passion for her work and hopes to continue to grow in her career.
Qualifications include:
• BMHBA, board member (Bismarck Mandan Home Builders Association)
• Member of NDNGLA (North Dakota Nursery, Greenhouse and Landscape Association)
Olga Rubi-Barber
Olga Rubi-Barber was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With more than twenty years of experience in Landscaping Design and Construction, she has developed a devotion to quality and customer service, sensitivity to client’s needs, and exceptional attention to detail.
Her projects range has included designing and constructing hardscapes and soft-scapes landscapes for residential complexes, shopping centers, public parks, companies, and dwellings and designing and installation of irrigation systems.
Olga also has six years of experience as a farm manager. She worked as a farm manager. She received recognition from the department of agriculture PR as a farmer of the year 2015 for the municipality of Salinas, Puerto Rico.
She possesses plenty of skills and knowledge in installations of Segmental Retaining Walls, Pavers Blocks, Boulder Walls, Landscape Step Units, Illumination, Irrigation blowouts, Irrigation Start-ups, water features, and more.
Qualifications include:
• ICPI Certified Concrete Paver Installer
• NCMA SRW Installer Certification
• Commercial Pesticide License, Department of Agriculture of North Dakota.
• Certification for Farm Administration, Agricultural Extension Services & USDA, FSA.
• Gardening I and II Certificate, Landscape Design I and II Certificate from the Universidad Sagrado Corazon, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Jon Rick
Jon Rick was born and raised in Bismarck, attending Solheim, Wachter, and BHS, and has been a business owner since 2005. Jon has been in the landscape industry since 2004. He holds multiple pesticide licenses through the Dept of Agriculture, Certified Landscape Professional(CLP), and Certified Turfgrass Professional which are national certifications. He has owned and operated service, construction, and real estate businesses. He currently owns 6 companies in 3 different states, all of which he has founded. Jon has faced many challenges throughout his career and has overcome a variety of economic conditions all while maintaining profitability and growth. He graduated with a Finance degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Jon has been involved with many different boards and currently services on the CU Leeds School of Business Advisory Board. He achieved many awards for his involvement, including Young Entrepreneur of the Year for all of Southern Colorado. He was also awarded the Emerging Leader Award by the ALCC in the state of Colorado for significant contributions to the statewide landscape industry and named a Rising Star by the Colorado Springs Business Journal in 2010. His contributions to the community through volunteer efforts, and his business acumen in Real Estate(ownership, construction, and development) make him an extremely well-rounded professional. He continues to focus on real estate investment while maximizing property/investment values through proper planning, execution, financial management, and follow-through.
Jon enjoys travelling with his wife, Anna, in his free time. They also try to spend as much time as possible outdoors playing golf, hunting and fishing. He enjoys all aspects of working outdoors and making properties beautiful. Honesty, integrity, maintaining an excellent reputation, and providing great service to clients are all engrained in Jon’s personal and professional life.
